Daily mobility routine in less than 10mins!

Updated: Mar 22, 2023

Mobilising your muscles and joints daily is, in my opinion, essential for overall health. It not only helps release any existing tightness in the body, it also prevents a build up of tension especially if you are a desk worker or have a job where you are sitting much of the time. And it can also help reduce stress.

Mobility exercises don't need to take ages either or be overly complicated. Just a handful of movements can have a positive effect when performed regularly.

The other thing to consider with these types of exercises is that they can move your body in each of the 3 planes of movement (frontal, sagittal, and transverse). For example, when walking we are in the sagittal plane. Walking is of course fantastic exercise. However, training your body to move multi-directionally (including flexion, extension, rotation and circumduction) is also extremely important. This will not only help reduce the risk of injury, it will help make normal daily activities so much easier.

Mobility exercises don't just support your body in daily life, they are also key to increasing exercise performance. Although mobilising the whole body is important, depending on the exercise method you are doing, you may wish to add specific movements to support that session. For example, if you are preparing for a run many of the mobility exercises will be lower body focussed complimented by upper body and full body movements.

"A muscle is like a car. If you want it to run well early in the morning, you have to warm it up." Florence Griffith Joyner

To help encourage you to make mobility exercises a positive daily habit, I have put together this "follow along" video of standing mobility exercises that can be done in under 10mins. Give this routine a try everyday for 7 days and see how you feel. : )

Have a fantastic week!
